At our recent Engage Conference at FBC Keller (August 2014), we featured several roundtable discussions on our identity as Southern Baptists including topics such as our denominational organization and polity as well as our basic beliefs and doctrinal statements.

Our pastor, Keith Sanders, and I led a wonderful discussion about our identity as Southern Baptists and how we have worshiped historically and what principles guide our worship practices currently at FBC Keller. It was a blessing to share the stage with my pastor and discuss why we do what we do. It’s my hope that our congregation gained a greater insight into our worship design and that it has enabled them to mine the riches of our corporate worship services.

I began the discussion with a brief overview of worship structure taken largely from Constance Cherry’s work, The Worship ArchitectI wish that I had come up with the metaphor of home construction and design and applied it to corporate worship. It’s one of the easiest metaphors to comprehend and is an effective tool for worship education.
