This past weekend, August 15–17, 2014, First Baptist Church Keller hosted our first annual Engage Conference. This church-wide conference explored what it means to have the Gospel expressed in every day life. It was a tremendous experience for our congregation.

Friday, August 15 — Our conference began with an evening worship service led by our worship team and Dr. Steven Smith, Vice President for Student Services and Communication at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Smith brought a powerful word concerning the prodigal son and the temptations of selfishness and self-righteousness.

On Saturday, August 16 we held a series of breakout sessions exploring a variety of topics including Introduction to Apologetics, How to Care for Aging Parents, several roundtables discussing the theology and organization of the Southern Baptist Convention, teacher training, and parenting issues.

Sunday, August 17 was a wonderful time of worship and celebration as we commissioned our new church plant, Foundation Baptist Church in Euless, Texas. We are excited to see what God is going to do with this congregation and her new pastor, Casey Lewis.

I taught two sessions on Saturday discussing the Gospel and our worship. The first session, found below, discussed how worship is expressed in Gospel-shaped rhythms in our individual spiritual lives. The afternoon session, with my pastor Keith Sanders, explored how the Gospel shapes and provides the pattern for corporate worship.

Crafting the Soul

We are called to be conformed to the image of Christ, but we often don’t know where to start. Like any good craftsman, our spiritual journey requires the right set of skills and tools. This class will explore ways to revitalize our personal spiritual life, enhance our devotional times, and transform our lives.
